Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of joining Tennis PALs for a very exciting helicopter ride piloted by Ms. Jane Wareham of Helix Helicopters. The excitement was evident as we all gathered around and met "Ronnie" the helicopter (It's short for Veronica). We had 7 kids split up into 3 tours. Their nervous giggles as we were prepping to climb in the helicopter turned into dropped jaws and excited gasps each time we lifted off. Upon disembarking the helicopter, everyone decided that they too wanted to be a pilot someday, just like Ms. Jane, who was wonderful and showed us many interesting things around the area from a bird's eye view. On the first trip, we got to see a sky diver peacefully drifting down toward the earth. Then, one of the kids spotted his house, so Ms. Jane took us for a closer look. Lake Okeechobee was a big hit as well, and most were surprised to find that it was only a lake and not an ocean! Not only was it an incredibly fun experience for these kids, but I think it also helped them see a bigger picture, flying high in the sky, and as Ms. Jane said, "you can just leave all your troubles behind you." The world seems so small from a birds eye view, and for a second, just as the sun sets over Lake Okeechobee and the water on the earth reflects perfectly the clouds in the sky, anything seems possible.
