Lauren Graber, this girl is amazing. I actually remember the first time I saw Lauren in a concert at Palm Beach Atlantic University when I was still in High School and I thought to myself, "wow. What an incredible role model! I want to float through the room like that and have such gracefully commanding stage presence." I've always looked up to Lauren. She's one of the few girls I know who is taller than me and she's always worn her height so well. Lauren and I had been planning this custom portrait shoot for probably a year, after her surgeries, recovering and health journey, I thought a portrait session would be an amazing testament to how far she has come. We settled on a theme that I think captures Lauren's spirit perfectly - The Four Elements. If you know her, you have experienced her natural grace in every circumstance. For me, Lauren embodies the organic beauty of the earth, the passion and life of fire, the spiritual depth of wind, and the sheer power of water.
I am incredibly thankful for her willingness to spend all day changing into dresses and driving all around town. All in all, this Four Elements photoshoot took about 12 hours from start to finish (with a few coffee and taco breaks here and there). Lauren climbed into trees, let me stick grass into her hair, carried around dry ice in a cemetery, and got in the ocean wearing a gown in front of 20 tourist onlookers. She is the epitome of a good sport and a great friend.
I've been learning a lot about high risk=high reward lately, and have been challenged to push the boundaries of creativity. This shoot really helped me loosen up and get new shots, try new angles and take more risks. I am so happy with the results and very pleased to announce that one of the photos from the "Water" portion of this shoot has been selected for the Palm Beach Photographic Centre’s 20th Annual Member’s Juried Exhibition. It will be on display at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre from August 26 - October 29, 2016. I can't express how encouraging this news has been to Lauren and myself and I look forward to continuing to push creative boundaries with Lauren and many others this year.
Enjoy my favorites from The Elements:
